Cai Guo-Qiang

Cai Guo-Qiang is an artist who works with explosions. Fireworks, gunpowder, spectacle.

His work deals with the intersections of Communism and modernity (see below for Berlin Wall reference); spirituality and destruction (see left).

His 2008 show at the Guggenheim, I Want to Believe, was like a good movie: thoughtful, with clear themes, exciting, well-paced, and of appropriate length--I walked through in 1h30.
